After he crashed his 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt, which overturned on Route 14 in Lewis Township about 3 p.m. on Feb. 25, Thomas W. Wallace, 67, of 873 Old Cemetery Road, Trout Run, admitted to a state trooper that before the crash, he "had consumed two mugs of beer" and then got back behind the wheel, according to an affidavit.
Wallace, who "showed numerous indicators of impairment" during field sobriety tests, said that an oncoming motorist had traveled into his lane, causing the wreck, the affidavit stated.
However, a witness to the crash, who was behind Wallace, told police a second vehicle was not involved. Charged with DUI and two summary violations, Wallace, who suffered a minor facial injury and had a BAC of .18, has been sent a summons to appear before a district judge.
In another case, when state troopers stopped David Colon, 47, of Rochester, New York, for speeding on Montgomery Pike in South Williamsport about 6:15 p.m. on March 15, they detected "a strong odor of burnt marijuana" inside his 2017 GMC van, court records stated.
Colon admitted he recently smoked marijuana, and troopers found a small amount of the controlled substance on him and in the vehicle, it was alleged in an affidavit. Colon submitted a blood sample, but no test results were mentioned in court papers. Charged with DUI and possession of marijuana, he has been sent a summons to appear before a district judge.
