While investigating a report of a possible underage drinking party in the remote area of McNett Township about 3:15 a.m. on New Years Day, state troopers came upon a 2010 Honda CRV parked in the middle of Bastian Road with its headlights on, according to an affidavit. The troopers spoke with Gaige Mychal Williams, of Wyalusing, who was walking from the passenger side of the SUV, police said. There was a strong odor of alcoholic beverage coming from his breath, and his eyes were glassy, watery and bloodshot, the affidavit stated. Williams, 22, who admitted to driving the vehicle, said he was stopped because his girlfriend, who was with him, "was throwing up outside the Honda because she drank a lot," court records stated. While performing field sobriety tests, Williams "showed numerous signs of impairment," police said, adding that a blood test revealed there was marijuana in his system. Charged with DUI of a controlled substance and one summary violation, Williams has been sent a summons to appear before a district judge.
In another case, state police stopped Antoine Manire, 33, of 807 Hepburn St., near East Third and Almond streets in the city after he crossed the double yellow line three times and was weaving within his lane of travel while driving a 2024 Mercedes-Benz about 2:15 a.m. on May 26, according to an affidavit. There was a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from inside his car, and during a series of field sobriety tests, Manire's performance indicated there was a high probability that he was under the influence," court records stated. With BAC of .16, Manire was charged with DUI and two summary violations. He has waived his preliminary hearing and is free on $5,000 bail.
