Already out on bail on other criminal charges, Vincent Sarnowski is back behind bars after stealing another man's cellphone charger and struggling with state troopers as they were attempting to take him into custody at East Third Street and Westminster Drive in Loyalsock Township about 7 p.m. Sunday, it was alleged in court papers. In order to get him to comply with their orders, police were forced to use a Taser gun on him, an affidavit stated.
Even after receiving a shock that sent him to the ground, Sarnowski, 45, of 828 Grove St., continued to make a scene by yelling and screaming obscenities and struggling with troopers as they handcuffed him.
As he was being taken to the police barracks in Montoursville in a cruiser, Sarnowski spit on the top of a trooper's head, it was alleged in court papers. The whole incident started about 6:30 p.m. when he sped away from East Third Street and Westminster Drive with a cellphone charger belonging to a man who was kind enough to loan it to him briefly, police said. The victim told Sarnowski he was going to call police if the charger was not returned, court records stated. "If you call the police, I will kill you," Sarnowski allegedly told the victim before driving away with it.
While troopers were questioning the victim, Sarnowski, returning to the scene, pulled into the lot, got out of his car and refused a trooper's orders to get back in his vehicle. Once in custody, Sarnowski was arraigned before District Judge Christian Frey on charges of robbery, terroristic threats, theft, aggravated assault, resisting arrest, obstructing the administration of justice and disorderly conduct. He was incarcerated in lieu of $50,000 bail. Sarnowski was arrested and jailed July 13 on charges of DUI, possession of a controlled substance and driving with a suspended license following an incident with his car in the 1900 block of East Third Street about 9 a.m. Incensed that District Judge Gary Whiteman was sending him to jail in lieu of $25,000 bail, Sarnowski flipped a table in the hearing room and was immediately taken to the floor by two troopers. He was later released after someone posted bail.
