JERSEY SHORE -- No one was injured when a fire, discovered by a passerby, erupted in a two-story garage Sunday afternoon in the 1200 block of Walnut Street, just down an alley behind the Citizens Hose Co., according to Fire Chief Ethan Goodbrod. Smoke was pouring from the two-car garage and heat soon blew out a window on the second floor, he said.
A woman stopped at the firehouse about 3:30 p.m. to report the fire. At the time, there were no vehicles in the garage, which the owner, whose name was not available, used mostly for storage, Goodbrod said. The building sustained moderate damage, he added. Trooper Nathan Birth, a state police fire marshal, ruled the cause of the fire was accidental.
