At 9:30 p.m. on Jan. 24, Jerome Bennett, 62, of 2198 Mahaffey Lane, was arrested after he crashed his 2013 Nissan Sinata into a fence in the 2100 block of King Street. Upon arrival, police observed damage to the fence, and Bennett's front passenger side, along with tire tracks leading to the fence.
Bennet, who was initially unable to find his driver's license in his wallet, had watery, bloodshot eyes, and had a strong odor of alcohol, police allege.
Bennett was unsteady on his feet, and when asked by police to submit to a field sobriety test, told them that he "had to pee," according to an affidavit.
He later admitted drinking at the Line Cafe on West Fourth Street and had a BAC of .25.
Bennett was charged with DUI, a summary offense and was released.
In another case, 1:30 a.m. on May 13, Tristen Drake, 26, of 1020 Memorial Ave., was stopped by Montoursville Police on I-180 in the area of the westbound on-ramp from State Route 87, after his 1998 BMW was clocked traveling 70 mph in a posted 55 mph zone.
Drake had red, glassy eyes and police detected the odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle, according to an affidavit.
He had slurred speech and admitted to consuming alcohol at The Cell Block prior to driving, court documents state.
Drake agreed to a field sobriety test, but related that he had a physical condition that could prevent him from completing the test.
He had a BAC of .11.
Drake was charged with DUI and two summary offenses. He waived his preliminary hearing and was released on $110,000 bail.
In another case, at 6 p.m. on Nov. 11, 2022, Lisa Ware, 51, of 1105 Walnut St., was arrested by city police after her 2011 Chevrolet Town and Country struck an oncoming vehicle in the 1000 block of High Street.
Witnesses reported that Ware had first struck a parked car while traveling east on High Street before swerving into oncoming traffic, where she collided with an oncoming vehicle, disabling both.
Upon arrival, police immediately tended to a passenger, who was overdosing, according to court documents.
Ware was alert, but not responsive. She was holding a glass pipe loaded with steel wool and a lighter, police allege. When police attempted to remove the pipe from her hand, she slowly placed it into the center cup holder.
She had pinpoint-sized pupils and was extremely lethargic, with slow, labored breathing. She was unable to answer any questions, but slowly looked around, court documents state.
When asked her name, Ware picked up a pack of cigarettes, a wallet and a bottle of hand sanitizer.
As time went by, Ware became more alert and made several random statements, such as "at least I didn't hit anything" and "I knew I shouldn't have drove," according to an affidavit.
Ware admitted to smoking crack and consented to lab work.
She was charged with DUI, possession of drug paraphernalia and a summary offense. She waived her preliminary hearing and was released on $5,000 bail.
