Williamsport police called to Lycoming College
With a sign that read “Obey Jesus” and using a bullhorn, a father, mother and their three juvenile children walked on campus voicing their religious beliefs. The five moved to Washington Boulevard after college security officers told them they were not allowed to conduct their demonstration on the school’s private property. “This is sacrilege. They have no idea what Christianity is all about,” said one man watching the demonstration. “The purpose is to get the students riled up,” one police officer at the scene said. “They claim to be a Christian group, but all they are really doing is hate speech,” a college student said. Some of the students got into a shouting match with the family, but after about an hour, the students disbursed, and the family left on their own. A police administrator there called the demonstration “a disruption,” but no arrests were made and the crowd remained peaceful. A similar demonstration occurred in Muncy Township at Lycoming Crossing in June.
