During a domestic disturbance late Sunday night at his home at 1995 Beech St. in Lycoming Township, Austin Michael Rishel grabbed a hold of a three-foot long metal bar and struck his father in the abdomen, Lycoming Regional police alleged in an affidavit. The assault "left a large red mark in the shape of a bar on his side," police said. Rishel, 23, also punched his father in the head "multiple times," it was alleged in the court document. It all started when Rishel's brother "mouthed off" to his father and began fighting him after the father asked the two sons "to do some chores around the house," police were told. Following the 9:45 p.m. assault, Rishel was arraigned before District Judge Kirsten Gardner on a felony charge of aggravated assault, simple assault and harassment, he was committed to the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bail.
Concerning an earlier disturbance, an arrest warrant was filed for Rishel after he allegedly "threatened to stab his father with the jagged end of a broken broomstick and threaten to kill him with a knife" on Sept. 14 Lycoming Regional police said in another criminal complaint. However, assault-related charges in this case were later withdrawn.
