Chad Armond, 48, of 2400 Mountain Ave., South Williamsport, has been jailed on a felony charge of discharging a firearm within an occupied structure and recklessly endangering, a misdemeanor, after he fired a firearm in his home with two family members in the house about 9 p.m. Sunday, it was alleged in a borough police affidavit. Police said family members told them that Armond was threatening to harm himself while "handling two handguns and waving them around in the air," the affidavit stated. Shortly after Armond's wife left the house with children, a gunshot went off, police said, adding that two other people were still in the home at the time.
No one was injured, police said. Armond, who one family member told police was "heavily intoxicated," was taken into custody without incident, and two handguns were seized by officers, court documents stated. Saying he was "at a low point in his life due to work-related issues and marital problems," Armond admitted to firing a shot into a wooden box in a corner of a bedroom, police said. Following his arraignment before District Judge Kirsten Gardner, Armond was committed to the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bail.
