Justin Murphy-Jones, 35, of Hornell, N.Y., was stopped by South Williamsport police at 12:45 a.m. on Aug. 17, after they observed his 2010 Dodge Dakota traveling in the wrong direction in the 500 block of South Market Street in South Williamsport.
Murphy-Jones was initially driving towards a tractor trailer before turning on East Mountain Road, and ultimately into the 7/Eleven parking lot where police conducted their traffic stop.
Murphy-Jones had a strong odor of alcohol, glassy, bloodshot eyes, and thick, slurred speech, police allege.
Murphy-Jones stated that he had been drinking beer, and police observed numerous empty beer cans, along with a partially consumed beer within the vehicle, according to an affidavit. Murphy-Jones further stated that he had drank more than he should have and that he knew he was intoxicated.
Murphy-Jones failed a field sobriety test, and had a BAC of .16.
He was charged with DUI, three summary offenses, waived his preliminary hearing, and was released on $5,000 bail.
In another case, state police stopped Richard Connors, 42, of Butler, at 2 a.m. on Aug. 5, after they clocked his 2021 GMC Sierra traveling at 76 mph in a posted 55 mph zone next the Warrensville Road exit.
Connors had glassy, bloodshot eyes, and a strong odor of alcohol was detected from his breath, police allege.
Connors had a bracelet from The Bar On Market, and related that he had consumed two drinks while there, according to an affidavit.
Connors failed a field sobriety test, and refused lab work.
He was charged with DUI, two summary offenses, waived his preliminary hearing, and was released on $5,000 bail.
In another case, at midnight on Feb. 2, Connor Walker, 22, of 305 School House Road, Montgomery, was stopped by state police near East Third Street and Old Montoursville Road in Loyalsock Township, after they clocked his 2007 Nissan Altima traveling at 77 mph in a posted 55 mph zone.
Walker had a strong odor of alcohol and glassy, bloodshot eyes, police allege.
Walker stated that he had taken two shots of Fireball an hour prior to driving, and admitted to smoking marijuana about four hours prior to driving, an affidavit said.
Walker failed a field sobriety test, and had a BAC of .14.
He was charged with DUI, three summary offenses, waived his preliminary hearing, and was released on $5,000 bail.
In another case, Austin Norton, 23, of 3327 Route 87, Montoursville, was arrested by state police at 3:45 a.m. on July 22, after his 2009 Honda Accord was involved in a vehicle crash in the 2800 block of Route 87 in Upper Fairfield Township.
Norton had an odor of alcohol, and glassy, bloodshot eyes, police allege.
Norton told police that he had been driving in the northbound lane when he swerved to miss a deer, subsequently striking a parked car, according to an affidavit.
Norton admitted to having consumed alcohol earlier in the night, but refused both a field sobriety test and lab work.
He was charged with DUI, a summary offense, waived his preliminary hearing, and was released on $5,000 bail.
In another case, state police stopped Kathryn O'Brien, 36, of 1818 Homewood Ave., after they observed her 2016 Lincoln MKX cross the solid line while exiting I-180 at exit 23B at 11:30 p.m. on July 4.
O'Brien had an odor of alcohol and glassy, bloodshot eyes, police allege.
She admitted to having consumed "a can of wine" in the evening prior to driving, according to an affidavit.
O'Brien failed a field sobriety test, and had a BAC of .17.
She was charged with DUI, three summary offenses, waived her preliminary hearing, and was released on $5,000 bail.
In another case, Adrian Womack, 37, of Reisterstown, Md., was stopped by state police at 2 a.m. on April 7, after they clocked his 2018 Nissan Maxima traveling 80 mph in a posted 55 mph zone near the I-180 West and East Third Street on-ram in Loyalsock Township.
Prior to questioning Womack, police discovered the vehicle's registration, along with Womack's driver's license were both suspended, court documents said.
Additionally, they witnessed Womack make movements consistent with attempting to hide something.
Police detected a strong odor of burnt marijuana from the vehicle, and observed multiple marijuana roaches and empty blunt wrap packages inside the vehicle, an affidavit said.
Womack told police that he had last smoked marijuana three and a half hours prior to driving, and had glossy, bloodshot eyes, according to court documents.
Womack refused consent to search due to his children being asleep in the vehicle, but admitted to having marijuana shake while denying any attempt to hide anything, police allege.
Upon taking Womack into custody, police discovered drug paraphernalia and a small amount of marijuana.
Womack failed a field sobriety tests, and lab work was positive for the presence of THC.
He was charged with DUI, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, recklessly endangering another person, five summary offenses, waived his preliminary hearing, and was released on $5,000 bail.
In another case, at 11:30 a.m. on Aug. 12, Matthew Neufer, 40, of 38 Cornwall Ave., Trout Run, was arrested by state police after they received a report of a disabled motorist near the I-180 West on-ramp in Fairfield Township.
Police first attempted to make contact with Neufer from his passenger window. When he did not respond they moved to knocking on his driver's window, and upon awakening, Neufer initially made gestures with his hands to leave, according to an affidavit.
Neufer had a strong odor of alcohol, glassy, bloodshot eyes, and thick, slurred speech, police allege.
Additionally, Neufer was unsteady on his feet, with police describing him as "disheveled and dirty."
Neufer first asked police where they were going, before exclaiming "let's go everywhere."
Neufer stated that he was "sobering up," relating that he had consumed four Jack Daniels drinks at Pete's on Broadway in Milton, but stopped drinking around 1:30 a.m., and had been sitting at his current location since half an hour later.
Neufer indicated that he was on several medications, telling police that he was not to mix them with alcohol, court documents state.
When asked to give a number to his level of intoxication, Neufer related "a three and realistically, a two or one," but stated he would be angry if his children were in a school bus with a driver of similar intoxication, according to an affidavit.
Neufer failed a field sobriety test, and had a BAC of .18.
He was charged with DUI, two summary offenses, waived his preliminary hearing, and was released on $5,000 bail.
In another case, state police arrested Lori Carpenter, 53, of 6200 Route 220, Linden, at 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 4, 2022, after her 2008 Jeep Wrangler struck a ditch on the left side of the roadway, crossing the lane of travel onto I -180 West before coming to rest after hitting a guardrail.
Carpenter had an odor of alcohol, red, glassy, bloodshot eyes, and mood swings, police allege.
She stated that she had just purchased new 1.5 liter bottles of Red Cat wine, prior to the crash, and that she had brought an unfinished bottle of wine along with her in the vehicle, according to an affidavit.
Carpenter further admitted to having consumed both marijuana and alcohol recently.
Carpenter had a BAC of .21, and lab results were positive for the presence of THC.
She was charged with DUI, two summary offenses, waived her preliminary hearing, and was released on $5,000 bail.
