Nelson Douglas Coffield, 60, of 857 Park Ave., has been charged by city police with possession of a controlled substance, tampering with evidence and possession of drug paraphernalia following an incident at Second and Park avenues about 9:20 p.m. on Oct. 13 in which he allegedly had two bags of powdered cocaine, according to court records. "He attempted to destroy one of the bags by putting it in his mouth and attempting to swallow it," police alleged. He has since waived his preliminary hearing before District Judge Aaron Biichle and is free on $5,000 bail.
In another case, Cameron Belle, 63, of 951 Second St., has been charged by the county's Narcotics Enforcement Unit with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia after a bag of crack cocaine was found in his home while investigators were executing a search warrant at the property on June 8, according to court records. A bench warrant was expected to be filed after he failed to appear for his preliminary hearing at Frey's office.
