8 motorists charged with DUI
Makayla Wetzel, 25, of Lock Haven was stopped by Lycoming Regional Police on Nov. 14, after it was reported that her 2015 Ford Focus was repeatedly running into things at 152 Pennsylvania Ave., before the car shut off.
Upon police arrival, Wetzel’s car was stuck between a truck, a sign, a fence and a chain barrier, all items she had struck, court documents said.
She was animated, emotional and clumsy, and a glass pipe with burnt residue was in plain view, police allege.
Wetzel failed a field sobriety test and lab results were positive for the presence of hydroxyzine and several controlled substances including amphetamine and methamphetamine.
She was charged with DUI, drug paraphernalia and released.
In another case, at 6:45 p.m. on Aug. 14, Lycoming Regional Police stopped Jody Goldston, 41, of 1310 Allegheny St., apartment 3, Jersey Shore, after they observed the registration on his 2002 Ford Explorer to have expired in February. Additionally, prior to the stop being initiated, Goldston stuck his arm out of his driver’s window and gave police the middle finger.
A traffic stop was initiated in front of Goldston’s address and, despite being told to return to his vehicle, he began walking towards the staircase to his apartment, police allege.
Goldston stated that he did not have any paperwork for the vehicle and provided police with a Tennessee driver’s license, before pulling out a pill bottle and attempting to procure a pill from it. The bottle had to be physically removed from his hand, an affidavit stated.
He had a blank stare throughout the encounter, refusing to look at police, along with a strong odor of alcohol and glassy, bloodshot eyes.
Goldston failed a field sobriety test and had a BAC of .16.
He was charged with DUI, three summary offenses and released.
Goldston later failed to appear for a preliminary hearing and a bench warrant is expected to be filed.
In another case, state police arrested Marvin King, 28, of Lock Haven, after his 2011 Ford pickup truck, along with a trailer it was towing was involved in a hit and run along the 6300 block of State Route 287 South in Mifflin Township.
After striking a telephone pole, the truck, which was damaged, fled the scene, spreading pieces of debris from a shed on the trailer along the highway, according to court documents.
Despite initially admitting to having consumed alcohol at an unidentified tavern early on during questioning, King refused to answer further questions, police allege.
King had a strong odor of alcohol, watery, bloodshot eyes and was unsteady on his feet, according to court documents.
He failed a field sobriety test and had a BAC of .22.
King was charged with DUI, two summary offenses, waived his preliminary hearing and was released on $15,000 bail.
In another case, Michael Persun, 46, of 1167 Dutch Hollow Road, Jersey Shore, was arrested by Lycoming Regional Police in the 100 block of North Main Street on Aug. 12, after they observed his 2017 Chevrolet Suburban cross the double yellow line. Police also struggled to keep up with the vehicle, indicating that Persun was traveling well above the posted speed limit of 35 miles per hour.
An odor of alcohol was detected from Persun’s vehicle and he had glassy, watery eyes and slurred speech, police allege.
An open container of an alcoholic beverage was in plain view in the center cup holder, according to an affidavit.
Persun failed a field sobriety test and had a BAC of .23.
He was charged with DUI, three summary offenses, waived his preliminary hearing and was released on $15,000 bail.
In another case, at 10 p.m. on Oct. 6, Joseph Kriner, 30, of 110 1/2 North Lincoln Ave., Jersey Shore, was arrested by Lycoming Regional Police after he lost control of his 2011 Subaru Impreza, resulting in the vehicle crossing oncoming traffic before striking a rock bank and coming to rest after traveling a further 300 yards in the 1100 block of State Route 287 in Piatt Township.
Kriner had an odor of alcohol and glassy eyes and admitted to having consumed alcohol prior to driving, police allege.
He failed a field sobriety test and had a BAC of .15.
Kriner was charged with DUI, three summary offenses, waived his preliminary hearing and was released on $15,000 bail.
In another case, state police arrested Lindsey Brackins, 36, of 315 S. Main St., apartment 2, Jersey Shore, during a follow-up interview pertaining to an unrelated matter at noon on Sept. 23.
Police contacted Brackins via her cellphone, offering to meet her at her present location, but Brackins refused, instead returning to her apartment in her 2002 Ford Explorer, according to an affidavit.
Brackins was evasive, refusing to reveal where she had been, only saying she was at a friend’s house, police allege.
She had a strong odor of alcohol, glassy, bloodshot eyes and police discovered her license was currently under suspension for a previous DUI, court documents state.
Despite denying being under the influence, Brackins failed a field sobriety test and had a BAC of .12.
She was charged with DUI, three summary offenses, waived her preliminary hearing and was released on $25,000 bail.
In another case, Karyn Forney, 55, of 140 Bittner Park Road, Lot 25, Trout Run, was arrested by state police after her 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander was involved in an accident at State Route 14 and Field Station Road in Lewis Township at 8 p.m. on Sept. 21.
Forney stated that she was attempting to make a left turn from Field Station Road onto State Route 14, she was struck by a second vehicle traveling north, according to court documents.
She had a strong odor of alcohol, glassy, bloodshot eyes and slurred speech, police allege.
Forney admitted to having consumed three mugs of alcoholic beverages at an establishment with her last drink being finished ten minutes prior to the crash, an affidavit said.
She failed a field sobriety test and had a BAC of .07.
Forney was charged with DUI, three summary offenses, waived her preliminary hearing and was released on $15,000 bail.
In another case, Douglas Plummer, 55, of Kansas, was stopped by Lycoming Regional Police after they observed his 2015 Ford Escape traveling along the right side off the roadway at 10 miles per hour, with its emergency lights activated on Dec. 28.
Plummer had a strong odor of alcohol and glassy bloodshot eyes, police allege and related that he was driving along the side of the road due to having a flat tire, despite police observation that all tires were inflated.
Plummer was unsteady on his feet and displayed outbursts of anger, becoming aggressive with police and refusing a field sobriety test, according to an affidavit.
Plummer was charged with DUI, two summary offenses and released on $5,000 bail.
