Shortly after 7 a.m. Wednesday, Michael Lee Edison broke through the locked back door of his former home on Campbell Street in Clinton Township and began breaking things around the house, state police alleged in an affidavit. He then grabbed his estranged wife "around the throat with his right hand," preventing her from breathing "for several seconds," police alleged. Before it was all over, Edison, 33, shoved the woman into a bathroom window, causing a head injury, police were told. An ambulance was dispatched, but it was unknown if the victim was transported to the hospital. Edison, whose new address was not provided, was arraigned before District Judge Aaron Biichle on charges of strangulation, simple assault and harassment, and committed to the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bail.
In another case, Kenneth M. Rhinehart, 64, of 341 Thompson St., Jersey Shore, has been charged with simple assault and harassment after punching his girlfriend in the face, shoving her to the floor and stomping on her chest and left leg during a domestic disturbance at a home in the 11000 block of Route 973 West in Mifflin Township on Dec. 12, state police alleged in an affidavit. The woman was treated for her injuries at Geisinger Jersey Shore Hospital, police said. Rhinehart has waived his preliminary hearing before Dieter and is free on $5,000 bail.
In another case, after pulling his pickup truck into his ex-girlfriend's driveway on Lake View Drive in Penn Township about 12:10 a.m. on Nov. 23, Luke Chubirka, 21, opened the truck's door and started throwing things at the woman when she came out of her house, according to a state police affidavit. When the two began to argue, Chubirka, of 354 Windy Hill Lane, Montoursville, suddenly put the truck in reverse, almost striking the ex-girlfriend with the open door, police alleged. The woman told police she dove out of the way to avoid getting hit. However, the woman's mother, who came out of the house, told the trooper she "pulled" her daughter out of the path of the door, the affidavit stated. Charged with simple assault and harassment, Chubirka, a resident of Fairfield Township, has waived his preliminary hearing before District Judge Gary Whiteman and is free on $5,000 bail.
