Water testing begins in Lewis Township
Other resources slated to end this week
TROUT RUN–As Lewis Township works to recover from flooding caused by storms from Hurricane Debby, officials there say this week marks the beginning of water testing and the end of some resource provisions.
Residents testing well water with kits provided by the Department of Environmental Protection should return samples between noon and 3 p.m. to the DEP office at 208 W. Third St., Williamsport. Those who are unable to turn in the kits personally should contact the Command Post to make arrangements for transport. There is a very short window of time after taking the sample for it to be returned. Residents must follow the instructions included with the kit to ensure a valid sample.
Food items including canned and boxed food, bottled water and juices, refrigerated and frozen foods, fresh fruits and vegetables, bagged ice, paper products, and cleaning supplies can be picked up until the end of this week at the fire hall.
Additional notices from Lewis Township supervisors and Trout Run Volunteer Fire Co. include:
Anyone with a Trout Run post office box can pick up their mail at Cogan Station Post Office. Residents on delivery routes will continue to receive mail as usual.
Any resident who has not yet completed a damage report should do so at the Command Post as soon as possible.
Residents who completed damage reports and did not submit photos should send them to SFolk@lyco.org.
Hepburn Township Fire Co. will host a Disaster Recovery Resources Expo by the Multi Agency Resource Center from noon to 8 p.m. on Aug. 20, and 21. A shuttle will depart at 5:30 p.m. each day of the expo from the TRVFC Command Post.
Hot meals are served in the tented area of TRVFC parking lot. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are prepared daily.
Restrooms, showers, and a freshwater station are located next to the TRVFC Command Post between the fire hall and the Trout Run Travel Plaza. Showers are open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily and include towels and washcloths. Restrooms and water are available 24 hours a day.
Laundry facilities are available at Camp Susque. To use the washing machines and dryers there, contact Davis Swift at 570-295-6976. Vouchers to use at Brite Laundry Center in Williamsport are available at the Command Post.
The Lewis Township building and the Trout Run post office were gutted and is being cleaned before renovations can begin.
Further updates will be posted on the fire company and township Facebook pages. All other questions, concerns, and needs should be directed to the Command Post in person or by calling 272-230-9361.
