Megan Valare Coffman, 30, of 1805 Hazel Drive, has been charged with recklessly endangering another person and endangering the welfare of a child for failing to supervise her 2-year-old daughter who was allowed to wander outside the home after Coffman passed out on a couch in the house on the night of June 3, state police alleged in an affidavit. Police responded to the Loyalsock Township residence after several witnesses saw the child wandering unattended in the yard, the court document stated. The witnesses saw a woman, Coffman, passed out inside the home and it "appeared that she was unresponsive," police were told.
When a trooper arrived on the scene, he entered the home and awoke Coffman. "There was a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Coffman's breath as she spoke with the trooper," it was stated in the affidavit. The woman refused to submit to a preliminary breath test, police said. Coffman "relinquished custody" of the child to a friend for the night, and the county's Children and Youth Department were contacted. Coffman waived her preliminary hearing Monday before District Judge Gary Whiteman and is free on $7,500 bail. In September 2023, Coffman was arrested by city police for allegedly driving drunk with her infant daughter in the vehicle.
