Elderly couple injured in Williamsport crash

Once again, firefighters throughout the region had their hands full on Monday afternoon, handling several crashes, including here on West Third Street, just west of Hepburn Street, where this Toyota overturned after striking a parked car about 3:10 p.m., city police said. The elderly driver and a passenger, his wife, were taken by ambulances to UPMC Williamsport to get further medical treatment. At about the same time, a woman suffered injuries when her pickup truck struck an embankment and hit a tree along Moreland Baptist Road, about three miles east of Lairdsville. The driver was taken to an area hospital, fire officials said. In another crash, this one in Bastress Township, a man was treated at UPMC Williamsport for injuries he suffered when his motorcycle and a car collided in the 5200 block of Route 654, in front of Eck’s Orchard, about 3 p.m., fire officials said.
