Variety of charges lodged in Lycoming County’s district courts

Ohio couple face charges after failing to return rental truck
Justin Kordack, 42, and his wife, Mindy Kordack, 32, both of Columbus Ohio, have been locked up on charges of felony receiving stolen property and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle after failing to return a 15-foot U-Haul box truck to Stoughton, Massachusetts, when the rental agreement had expired, state police alleged in an affidavit.
The couple was taken into custody and the truck was seized Wednesday night at the Quality Inn and Suites, 1840 E. Third St., police said. The court document did not state when the rental agreement expired, but only that Stoughton police had reported the truck stolen. Kordack faced an additional summary offense of obstruction of justice for refusing to identify himself to law enforcement, police said.
Following their arraignment hours later before District Judge William Solomon, the couple were committed to the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bail each.
Two face charges in separate domestic disturbances
During a domestic disturbance with his ex-girlfriend in the 100 block of Rose Street on May 26, James M. Confer pulled her into an office, locked the door and held her against a wall momentarily, refusing to let her leave, city police alleged in an affidavit. The woman managed to unlock the door and escape while a third person entered the office and kept Confer, 48, of 438 N. Shaffer Hill Road, Cogan Station, distracted, police said. Charged with false imprisonment, simple assault and harassment, Confer was arraigned before District Judge Christian Frey and was recently held for court on all three charges following a preliminary hearing. He remains locked up in lieu of $15,000 bail.
In another case, Bret Snyder, 64, 599 Lyons Barr Road, Montoursville, has been charged with strangulation, simple assault and harassment for scratching his brother’s face and choking him during a confrontation over access to a lawn mower on Route 87 in Fairfield Township on July 10, state police alleged in an affidavit. Snyder has since waived his preliminary hearing before District Judge Gary Whiteman and is free on $25,000 bail.
Hepburn Township woman charged with stealing mother’s car
Julye Ann Koch, 29, of 126 Fisher Road, Cogan Station, has been charged with stealing her mother’s 2019 Kia Optima from the Hepburn Township home they share on July 10, according to Lycoming Regional police.
Police recovered the car the next day in Muncy Township and took Koch into custody on felony charges of theft and receiving stolen property plus one misdemeanor offense of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. Koch, who is on county probation for theft and drug offenses, was arraigned before District Judge William Solomon and remains jailed in lieu of $15,000 bail. She has since waived her preliminary hearing.
Inmate facing new set of charges
Already incarcerated on one set of city police charges, Lycoming County Prison inmate Shyquan Hicks was taken before District Judge Aaron Biichle on Monday to face a new set of crimes, including endangering the welfare of a child, resisting arrest, simple assault, criminal mischief and harassment, according to court records.
The new offenses stem from his alleged disruptive and assaultive behavior when officers arrived at his home at 814 Hepburn St. about 4 p.m. on July 26 to investigate a domestic disturbance and to take him into custody on a warrant that was filed in mid-December, it was stated in an affidavit.
In the document, it was alleged that Hicks grabbed his 3-year-old son and swung him into the toddler’s grandmother. Police also said that before they arrived on the scene, Hicks, 28, punched the boy’s mother in the left side of the face. While being taken from the home in handcuffs, Hicks “ripped away from the officers multiple times,” forcing them to place him in shackles, it was stated in the court document.
At the police station, Hicks intentionally banged his head off the wall, leaving a hole, it was alleged. In the original warrant, police charged Hicks with terroristic threats, simple assault and harassment, all stemming from an incident on Dec. 11. Following his arraignment by District Judge Gary Whiteman, Hicks was jailed on no bail. Following his arraignment on the new set of charges, Hicks was locked up on an additional $25,000 bail.
