Maryland teenager caught driving stolen dump truck in South Williamsport area
Daniel Faruqui, 18, of Clarksburg, Maryland, has been arrested on a felony charge of receiving stolen property and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle after he was caught on Aug. 31 driving a new dump truck, valued at $241,000, that had been stolen from Mississippi, according to South Williamsport police.
An officer stopped the truck in the 200 block of Route 15 about 12:10 a.m. after noticing that the vehicle had no taillights, it was stated in an affidavit. When he got closer, the officer noticed there was no license plate on the vehicle at all. The officer had to instruct the teenager how to put it in park after the driver told him he didn’t know how to do it.
Plastic wrapping still covered the interior handles as well as the exterior tanks, police said. It turned out Faruqui’s driver’s license was suspended, police added. Initially jailed, Faruqui waived his preliminary hearing Monday before District Judge Gary Whiteman and remains free on $100,000 bail.
