Pennsylvania Sees 5.92% Year-on-Year Gambling Revenue Increase

3 min read

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) has reported the official figures for gambling in the state for September 2025. As per the reports, the total revenue for the month was $535.8 million, which was across all forms of gambling. In total, this represented a 5.92% increase in revenue from 2024.

This shows just how prevalent gambling, regardless of the form, has become in both Pennsylvania and around the US. As even more growth is expected in the next few years, regulators will have their work cut out for them.

Gambling Growth Around the USA

One trend we've seen in the last few years has been more profitability in the gambling sector. Casinos have always been profitable, but the internet has opened up a world of opportunity for players. Online casinos in the US have become immensely popular for a number of reasons. For starters, they allow players to place wagers from home and even on the go, which represents a level of convenience not usually seen in land-based establishments. Then, there are the myriad of bonuses that they can instantly compare across different platforms to maximize their options. Should they place wagers using digital assets, they can also preserve their privacy.

As these online options have continued to grow, regulatory bodies are distinguishing between their revenue and that from the land-based establishments. In the latest report from the PGCB, online gambling brought in a total of  $233.3 million, which is a 32.08% increase from the previous month.

$194 million was attributed to retail slots and $73.4 million to table games. These figures show that online gambling is almost neck-and-neck with land-based gambling, indicating a split between consumer preferences. Stats show that these figures are bound to increase in the next few years, and some industry stakeholders speculate that online gambling could even surpass in-person efforts in the next few years.

The Challenge of Regulation

The growth of iGaming has not gone unnoticed by regulators around the world, with many adjusting rules to accommodate this. We've seen this in parts of Canada, which have legalized iGaming to tap into this growing market.

This is in a bid to retain customer spending and the subsequent tax revenue that these operations generate. The iGaming space, already worth billions, can go on to deliver even bigger returns over the next few years. If customers cannot get options within their own state, they might shun in-person options and opt for offshore options to get their needs met.

This means that the money they spend goes to other states. But even with this, regulators must draw the line between encouraging the iGaming space while also protecting users. This means proper taxation, regulating the companies operating within their states and making sure everything is above board. Some states are firm in their rejection of iGaming, while clearly, Pennsylvania is on a different route. Hopefully, these figures will continue to rise over the next few years and Pennsylvanians, both gamers and non-gamers, will reap the benefits.
