Williamsport man charged after alleged hit and run

A city man is facing several charges after his 2012 Subaru Forester allegedly struck a Ford Escape in the 1700 block of Lycoming Creek Road on Sept. 6, 2025, court documents said.

As an alleged victim was coming from the off-ramp to Lycoming Creek Road and waiting for traffic from High Street, Raymond Ernest Harpster, 59, of 2213 Trenton Ave., struck her vehicle, she told Lycoming Regional Police.

Harpster allegedly agreed to pull into a nearby grocery store to exchange information, however, as the alleged victim pulled into the store’s parking lot, Harpster drove off.

The alleged victim’s vehicle suffered only minor damage, while the impact resulted in car parts falling off of Harpster’s vehicle, information that was used by police to help identify him, according to court filings.

Interviewed by police, Harpster allegedly admitted that he did not have valid registration, insurance, and that his license was currently under a DUI suspension.

Harpster was arraigned on charges of driving on a suspended license, fleeing the scene of an accident involving damage, operating a vehicle without valid insurance and operating a vehicle without a valid registration by District Judge William Solomon.

Starting at $2.99/week.
