Fire crews in two different parts of the county battled both the elements and blazes Thursday night into Friday morning.
Just before 10:30 p.m. on Thursday, multiple emergency crews were dispatched to a fire in the 200 block of South Market Street in Muncy.
“At least three at least three garages and up to as many as six vehicles were damaged by the fire,” Muncy Area Volunteer Fire Company Assistant Chief Greg Delany said.

The spread of the blaze caused widespread confusion among those on social media as to what street was affected.
“The origin of the fire was on Market Street, that’s where the bigger garages sit, and then there was some extension across the street, which would be a Main Street address,” Delany explained.

Initial scanner reports indicated power lines also ablaze.
A firefighter among the first on the scene was injured when hot embers impacted his face.
“I think he said it was a second degree burn, but they had already blistered and tore open,” Delany said, adding that burns were quickly treated and will be followed up on by a doctor.

With the area in the midst of a cold snap, runoff from firefighting efforts quickly turned to ice, resulting in a fall by an EMT.
“She hit her head and we were afraid she had a concussion, but she was treated and released as well,” Delany said.
The fire was knocked down in approximately half an hour, the Assistant Chief said.
An investigation into the cause of the blaze was expected to take place Saturday.
Additional crews from Hughesville. Picture Rocks, Pennsdale, Montoursville and Warrior Run assisted with the scene.

DuBoistown Fire Department performed what is called a move-up, positioning themselves to assist in any emergency needs while the Pennsdale Volunteer Fire Company assisted in Muncy.
Pennsdale would return the favor when a fire would break out just off of the Duboistown side of the Arch Street Bridge a short time later.
Ironically, Duboistown personnel would arrive back at their station just before being called out to a fully involved structure fire at Culberson Construction, 6 S. Arch St., Duboistown, shortly before 1 a.m. Friday morning.
“The guys were just going out of the back door when this one came in,” said department Chief Paul McKinley.
The bulk of the fire was contained within 30 minutes, with crews working on overhaul for roughly another hour, McKinley said.

No injuries arose from the blaze.
An early concern involved a utility pole and lines close to the building.
“They did an emergency shut down because they were afraid the fire might burn the pole and it would snap off, or the wires or the Transformers would blow up from the heat,” McKinley said.
PP&L stayed on scene till around six or seven o’clock in the morning to ensure power could be restored to a business to the rear of the destroyed building.
Small plumes of smoke billowed from the site around 8 a.m. Friday due to the presence of tires in the front of the building and hotspots in the back of the building that were unreachable by fire personnel.

State Fire Marshals are working with South Williamsport Borough police to determine the cause of the inferno.
Assisting units included those from Williamsport, South Williamsport, Nesbitt, Susquehanna Regional EMS, Pennsdale, Old Lycoming Township and Montoursville.
Temperatures were again in the single digits as fire crews worked to extinguish the respective blazes, with the Real Feel reaching close to -10 degrees, according to The Weather Channel.
This marks the third large fire to strike the area in three days, something McKinley said is prevalent with the frigid air in place.
“Your furnaces are trying to work extra hard to keep them warm, and then people don’t clean around their furnaces,” he said, stressing that there should be a minimum of three feet of clear space around furnaces.
“If they overheat, they can catch whatever is around them on fire. With electric heat, the panel boxes may get too warm because the wiring is getting older, and that creates an issue,” McKinley explained.
“Everything gets overworked, trying to keep up with heating demands, and just puts a toll on it all,” he said.
The Chief also warned against plugging space heaters into extension cords or power strips.
“They’re doing all that to keep warm, or they’re firing up the wood stoves hotter, or turning on extra kerosene heaters,” McKinley said.
