Homeless woman faces charges following incident at Williamsport convenience store

When she refused to leave the Turkey Hill at 700 Washington Blvd., Williamsport, on July 2, Karen Marie Ashton was forcibly removed from the property by city police, it was alleged in an affidavit. Police also said she allegedly put up resistance to their efforts to handcuff her. In addition to being charged with resisting arrest as well as defiant trespassing and possession of drug paraphernalia, the 41-year-old homeless woman was charged with misdemeanor shoplifting for taking a $2 soda from the convenience store, it was stated in a court document. Initially she was sent a summons, but ended up being arraigned last week before District Judge Aaron Biichle and jailed in lieu of $5,000 bail.

Starting at $2.99/week.
