Recovery of stolen handgun results in felony charge against Williamsport man

Anthony Garnett Williams Jr., 28, of 735 Center St., Williamsport, has been charged by state police with felony receiving stolen property after authorities last month recovered a stolen handgun that they allege Williams kept hidden in a shoebox in an apartment at 1600 Sycamore Road in Loyalsock Township. The apartment’s female tenant had told law enforcement of the whereabouts of the gun, according to an affidavit. “Williams had been living with the woman at her apartment since last summer,” but she had recently filed a protective from abuse order against him. When officers arrived at the apartment on Dec. 10 to serve Williams the order, no one was home, the court document stated. Authorities then notified the tenant, who responded and gave her consent for law enforcement to search the apartment, the court document stated. The gun was found exactly where the woman said it would be. The gun was one of six firearms stolen in a 2019 burglary at an auction hall in Muncy Township, police said. Following his recent arraignment before Biichle, Williams was released on $25,000 bail.
