A Rochester, N.Y. man faces charges of possessing a firearm with an altered serial number and possession of a controlled substance after state police responded to a report of a white van in the median with its hazard lights activated in the 7000 block Route 220 North in Woodward Township on March 27, 2026.
While speaking with the operator of the vehicle, Jeremy Paul Thompson Jr., 32, police allegedly detected the odor of raw marijuana coming from the vehicle and were told there was a small amount present, according to an affidavit.
During a consensual search of the vehicle, police discovered a white backpack containing a Hi-Point Model JCP 40 Smith & Wesson with an obliterated serial number, a 15 round magazine, a baggie containing approximately .5 grams of a white substance, a baggie containing approximately 3.2 grams of suspected marijuana and a glass jar containing approximately one gram of marijuana, court filings said.
Thompson allegedly acknowledged that the backpack belonged to him, as well as the firearm and marijuana. He added that he believed the gun lacked a serial number, which police were unable to locate.
Thompson was arraigned on the charges, along with a count of possession of a small amount of marijuana by District Judge Kirsten Gardner, and released on $35,000 bail.
