Wanted for allegedly stabbing to death another man during a confrontation in South Carolina’s Hampton County on Saturday, Johnathan Romig was taken into custody in Williamsport late Wednesday morning by agents assigned to the local U.S. Marshals Office.

Agents received a tip that Romig, 38, originally from Yamassee, South Carolina, was at a business in the 700 block of West Third Street about 1145 a.m.

Once on the scene, officers saw Romig and took him into custody without incident. He was taken initially to city police headquarters and then from there to UPMC Williamsport to get “evaluated” for an undisclosed medical issue.

Investigators said he was wanted for homicide after he fatally stabbed a man in the neck, it was alleged. A warrant for his arrest was filed on Monday.

There was no information on what Romig was doing in Williamsport. Also, no other details were available about the murder. Upon being discharged from the hospital, Romig, who now has an address of Beaver Dams, New York, was returned to police headquarters, where he was arraigned by District Judge Christian Frey on a felony charge of fugitive from justice. He was placed in the Lycoming County Prison on no bail.

Unless he waives extradition, he will have an extradition hearing before a county judge.

Starting at $2.99/week.
