Motorist Colton France, 30, of 5668 Route 442, Muncy, faces charges for abandoning his Chevrolet Cruze after it crashed on Route 442 near Wallis Road, not far from his Moreland Township home, on Nov. 27, according to state police. Besides being charged with the summary offense of accidents involving damage to unattended vehicle or property (hit-run), France has also been charged with illegal possession of a firearm after a rifle was found in the car, police said, adding that at the time of the crash, there was a protection from abuse order filed against France, and the order prohibited him from possessing any guns. He told police the rifle was “a gift for his mother,” it was stated in an affidavit. France was held for court on both charges plus five additional summary offenses following a hearing before Gardner. He was released on $5,000 bail.
