Lycoming County district judges kept busy with variety of arraignments

Assault-related charges lodged against Fairfield Township man

While his fiancee was holding the couple’s 5-year-old child, Joshua Louis Cooke punched the woman in her nose during a domestic disturbance in the couple’s Fairfield Township’s home at 280 Country Lane on the morning of April 10, state police alleged in an affidavit. Police said Cooke also bear-hugged the woman as her feet were off the ground and slammed her into the hardwood floor three times, it was alleged. She was not holding the child then, police said. Taken into custody and arraigned on charges of felony endangering the welfare of child as well as one count each of simple assault and harassment, Cooke, 37, was arraigned before District Judge Gary Whiteman and initially jailed, but has since been released on $15,000 bail. He was held for court last week on all charges following a preliminary hearing.

Game commission files numerous charges against Elimsport man

An arrest warrant was expected to be filed for Brandon Hill, of 59 Gap Road, Elimsport, after the 29-year-old man recently failed to appear for his preliminary hearing to face misdemeanor and summary charges filed by state Game Warden Sheldon Helm. Hill has been charged with resisting inspection or apprehension and flight to avoid apprehension as well as four summary offenses, including resisting or interfering with an officer, according to court records filed at the office of District Judge Kirsten Gardner.

Shortly after Helm stopped him and asked him for his fishing license near Spring Creek off of Mill Road in Washington Township on the afternoon of April 4, Hill jumped in a white Mazda and took off, it was alleged in an affidavit. Minutes earlier, Helm saw Hill in waders, carrying a trout on a fishing stringer, the court document stated. After Hill fled the scene, Helm caught up with him on Fourth Gap Road. When he was asked why he fled, Hill claimed he was “confused,” the affidavit stated. Hill released him and told him to go home, the court document stated. In the meantime, Helm learned that not only did Hill not have a fishing license, but there were also “several warrants” for his arrest. The Lycoming Sheriff’s Office wanted Hill taken into custody and automatically jailed in the Lycoming County Prison, which was done that night. There was no information Tuesday night regarding those warrants, but Hill was later released from jail. Hill was arraigned last month on Helm’s charges and released on $25,000 bail. In his absence, Hill was held for court on all of Helm’s charges at the conclusion of a recent hearing before Gardner.

One Feb 6 alone, he called 911 three times, but again he would not open the door for officers,

police said. Following a preliminary hearing, Yaw was held for court on a misdemeanor charge of abusing the 911 system and released on $5,000 bail.
