Lycoming County district judges kept busy with variety of charges
Four men arrested in separate domestic disturbances
While driving a 2006 Honda Odyssey, Walter L. Worthington Jr., 69, of 440 Pine Summit Road, Unityville, intentionally struck his son during an argument about 4 p.m. on April 26, state police alleged in an affidavit. The confrontation took place on or near the father’s Jordan Township property, police said. The son was thrown back into a tractor, but escaped unharmed, police said. Following his arraignment before District Judge Gary Whiteman on charges of aggravated and simple assault as well as recklessly endangering another person and harassment, Worthington was locked up in the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $15,000 bail.
In another case, Jamair Lewis, 20, who lives with his father at 109 Broad St., Montgomery, also landed in prison after assaulting and threatening to kill his father during a disturbance at the house late Monday night, state police alleged. Lewis “was becoming aggressive over disagreements in the household,” and his father ordered him to leave, but he refused, police said in an affidavit. The father “tried to physically guide Lewis out the door,” police said, adding
that after the two men got outside, Lewis smashed a window with an unidentified object, kicked in a door and threatened to kill his father, telling him “his life was going to be over,” the court document stated. The two then engaged in a physical altercation, police said. Charged with terroristic threats, simple assault, and harassment, Lewis was arraigned before Whiteman and jailed in lieu of $10,000 bail.
In another domestic, Logan Jacob Bennett, 25, of 28 W. Water St., Muncy, was arrested on charges of simple assault and harassment for punching his girlfriend four times in the face in the couple’s home during an argument that began after Bennett shot the couple’s 3-year-old daughter with a gel-blaster gun on Sunday morning, borough police alleged in an affidavit. Following the assault, the woman, holding a dishtowel to stop the bleeding that was coming from her nose, left the house and flagged down a police officer who was patrolling the neighborhood, it was stated in an affidavit. Once in custody, Bennett was arraigned before District Judge Kirsten Gardner and jailed in lieu of $10,000 bail.
In another domestic disturbance, Harley Zeigler, 38, of 934 Vine Ave., has been arrested on a misdemeanor charge of simple assault for allegedly punching his pregnant girlfriend in the head in front of the couple’s children at their home on March 21, city police said in an affidavit filed at the office of District Judge Christian Frey. Following his arraignment, he was released on $25,000 bail. Zeigler will have a preliminary hearing early next month.
Woman on probation allegedly spit in officer’s face
As she was being brought into the county prison by probation officers with the help of corrections staff on April 17, Tracey Lynn Deshong spat in the face of one of the officers, it was alleged in court documents filed by a county detective. The 53-year-old city woman put up resistance and refused to comply with orders to move as the officers tried to get her into the jail, it was stated in an affidavit. An officer had to deploy a taser gun in order to get her to comply, the detective said. Initially jailed on a probation violation, Deshong has now been arraigned before District Judge Aaron Biichle on felony charges of assault on a law enforcement officer and aggravated harassment by prison as well as three misdemeanors, including resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and institution vandalism. The last charge stems from her allegedly “spitting multiple times on the windows” of the vehicle that the officers used to transport her to the prison, the affidavit stated. Deshong has since been recommitted in lieu of $25,000 bail.
Two face felony shoplifting charge in separate cases
Five-time convicted shoplifter Wesley Zane Russitano, 46, of 2246 Webb St., has been charged yet again with the same offense; this time he was caught allegedly stealing $108 worth of merchandise from Target in Muncy Township on Monday afternoon, state police said. Following his arraignment before Whiteman on felony charges of shoplifting and receiving stolen property, Russitano was released on $10,000 bail.
In another case, four-time convicted shoplifter William Lawren Adams Sr., 53, of 1411 Dewey Ave., has been arrested for allegedly stealing $4 worth of merchandise from Sheetz on Route 220 in Woodward Township on April 17, according to state police. Following his arraignment Wednesday before Whiteman on a felony charge of shoplifting, Adams was released on $15,000 bail.
Woman faces prostitution charge after allegedly offering sex for money
Cadence William-Chaffman, 21, of 815 W. Fourth St., has been charged with prostitution after she offered to perform sexual acts for an undercover state trooper after receiving $400 in the 400 block of Grant Street in the city about 11:30 a.m. on April 28, state police alleged in an affidavit. Following her arraignment hours later before District Judge Aaron Biichel, William-Chauffman was jailed in lieu of $2,500 bail.
