Former personal care aide accused of using client’s vehicle without permission
A former personal care aid faces several charges after she allegedly used an alleged victim’s vehicle numerous times without permission, Lycoming Regional police said in an affidavit.
The usage was discovered on May 30 by a CNA who allegedly witnessed Erika Becerra Kennedy, 21, of 703 Allegheny St., Apt. 7, Jersey Shore, pull in and park it in the parking lot. Four days later, the CNA arrived at the alleged victim’s residence to transport her to the emergency room to find the vehicle missing. The next day, the CNA contacted Kennedy and instructed her to return the vehicle to the parking lot and hang up the keys, court filings said.
Kennedy understood and allegedly said she needed to remove some of her personal belongings from the vehicle.
Kennedy’s former employer provided police with a written statement from Kennedy in which she allegedly admits to using the vehicle without authorization, court documents said.
The alleged victim told police that she had given Kennedy a set of keys in order to let herself into her apartment so she didn’t have to do so herself, but had never given her permission to take the vehicle and was not aware it had been taken.
She was arraigned on charges of theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, unauthorized use of an automobile and abuse of a care-dependent person by District Judge Denise Dieter and released on $25,000 bail.
