Jersey Shore man charged with identity theft, other charges

Michael Eugene Reeder, 22, of 211 Smith Street, Jersey Shore, faces several theft-related charges after his grandmother reported that he had stolen her Medicaid card, which was loaded with $300, a Lycoming Regional police affidavit said.

Upon finding out that card had been pilfered by Reeder, the alleged victim contacted the issue, who related that charges had been made to the card through Straight Talk and Disney.

Confronted by his grandmother, Reeder allegedly admitted to stealing and using the card “because he had no money,” court documents said.

Interrogated at police headquarters, Reeder allegedly admitted to authorities that he receives notifications on his phone of the day’s mail deliveries and that he took and activated the card for usage, proceeding to make purchases and pay bills to Straight Talk, Disney, Peacock, Spotify and his Verizon internet bill.

Reeder initially told police he shredded the card after he had used it, but later produced the card from his pocket and turned it over, police said in court filings.

Reeder was arraigned on charges of identity theft, theft of mail, access device fraud and theft by unlawful taking by District Judge Denise Dieter, and jailed at the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $10,000 bail.

Starting at $2.99/week.
