Teen charged with assaulting police at Montoursville graduation

A disturbance broke out in the parking area during the Montoursville Area High School Commencement Ceremony Thursday evening, Montoursville Borough Police said in a public information release report posted to their Facebook page Friday.

Roughly halfway through the ceremony at 7:30 p.m., Ishmael Amos, 18, of 1603 Catherine St., Williamsport, left the bleachers where attendees were seated for the ceremony and approached two unknown individuals in the parking lot of the school, the manner of which made it apparent to borough police that a confrontation was in progress, the release said.

Police instructed the three individuals to leave the premises, with the two unknown persons departing, while Amos continued to act in a threatening manner.

Amos then allegedly pushed Deputy Chief Clinton Gardner, after which he was advised that he was under arrest, according to the release.

Amos continued resisting, and once handcuffed, proceeded to allegedly kick Officer Marcus Watkins several times.

Amos was arraigned on charges of felony aggravated assault, simple assault, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct by District Judge Aaron Biichle, and jailed at the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $25,000 bail.

Starting at $2.99/week.
