Two separate fires damage barn, mobile home

After being awakened early Sunday morning by several of his cats, a Muncy Creek Township man safely escaped his burning home at the Fox Croft Manor Mobile Home Park along Route 442, according to Muncy Area Fire Chief Scott Delany. It was believed that most of the cats also escaped, he said.

“It was a kitchen fire, and we had it out in a matter of minutes,” he said. Muncy Area and several other fire companies were dispatched to 1635 Route 442 about 1 a.m., but Delany recalled all of them except Hughesville and Montoursville. Although the fire was confined to the kitchen, it still resulted in about $10,000 structural damage. The sole resident, whose name was not released, was staying with relatives, Delany said, adding that the victim may likely be displaced for several weeks. The fire, which appears accidental, remains under investigation.

Concerning another incident, several volunteer fire companies were called to extinguish an accidental fire Friday night just outside Montgomery that caused moderate damage to a barn that was owned by an area firefighter. The fire in the 1700 block of Cemetery Hill Road in Clinton Township broke out about 7:30 p.m. and was brought under control in about 40 minutes. Some of the fire companies assisting township firefighters were from Montgomery, Elmisport, Warrior Run Area, Muncy Area, Picture Rocks, Nisbet, DuBoistown and Hughesville. The barn was used for storage and most of the items in the structure did not sustain much damage, township Fire Chief Todd Winder said.
