William Lawrence Adams, 53, of 1411 Dewey Ave. in the city has been charged with theft from a motor vehicle and loitering and prowling at night after he was allegedly captured on home surveillance attempting to gain entry into a vehicle in the 200 block of Seminary Street in Jersey Shore on July 16, according to an affidavit by Lycoming Regional police.
During the overnight hours of July 16 into the 17, the police department had received numerous complaints of vehicles being entered in downtown Jersey Shore.
One of those alleged victims provided police with surveillance video capturing a male wearing a tank top, shorts and flip flops attempting to open the passenger door of her truck around 2:45 a.m., court documents said.
The truck was parked behind their residence in an area not open to the public," the alleged victim added.
Police would later be contacted by an employee of a local convenience store who advised that she had seen the video posted by the alleged victim and that Adams had arrived to her store in a gold Jeep around 4:30 a.m. that morning, wearing clothing matching that of the suspect seen in the video, an affidavit said.
The employee related that she had recorded Adams due to being aware that he was involved in narcotics and believed he was up to no good.
Reviewing stills from the employee's video, police determined Adams was the individual seen on the alleged victim's video. They further allegedly identified his vehicle speeding from the area of the Jersey Shore Recycling Center, which sits near the alleged victim's home, around 3:02 a.m.
A review of surveillance from the convenience store and the employee's video confirmed that Adams was wearing the same flip flops as the individual seen at the alleged victim's house, police said in court filings.
The owner of the Jeep Adams was seen arriving at the convenience store allegedly confirmed that Adams had been using his Jeep.
Adams was arraigned by District Judge Denise Dieter and returned to the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $20,000 bail.
Adams is currently scheduled for to appear for a preliminary hearing before District Judge Christian Frey on charges of possession with intent to deliver and criminal communication of a communication facility on Aug. 4, and tampering with or fabricating evidence and possession of drug paraphernalia and theft from a motor vehicle and loitering and prowling at night before District Judge Aaron Biichle on Aug. 20; and before Lycoming County President Judge Eric Linhardt for sentencing on charges of retail theft, and tampering with or fabricating evidence and disorderly conduct in two separate cases on Sept. 18.
