JERSEY SHORE – After causing one accident on North Lincoln Avenue late Tuesday night , motorist Nichols Anthony Richart fled the scene in his SUV only to crash first into a parked car and then a utility pole as he swerved to avoid striking a Domino's Pizza tractor-trailer truck whose driver was backing into the eatery's parking lot to make a delivery, according to Lycoming Regional police.
The impact of Richart's vehicle with the pole snapped the pole in half, "causing power lines to fall onto the truck tractor," police said. However, no one was injured in either crash, which occurred minutes apart about 10:20 p.m., police said. Before he fled on foot, Richart's SUV struck a second parked vehicle, this one in the Domino's Pizza parking lot, police said.
Richart, 37, of Lock Haven, eluded officers for about 20 minutes before he was nabbed in the 1500 block of Allegheny Street with the help of state troopers. Police alleged he was under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance
Since he is already on probation in Clinton County, Richart was automatically placed in the Clinton County Prison on a probation violation. He was arraigned late Wednesday afternoon before District Judge Denise Dieter on charges of recklessly endangering another person, accidents involving damage to attended vehicle (hit-run), DUI and several summary offenses including driving with a suspended or revoked driver's license. Following his arraignment before District Judge Denise Dieter, Richart was committed to the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $100,000 bail.
