Three men face charges in separate domestic disturbance cases
During a domestic disturbance at their home at 503 Thomas Ave. on July 8, Cristian Candelaria "placed his fingers in his girlfriend's eye sockets, resulting in corneal lacerations and hemorrhages to her right eye," city police alleged in an affidavit. It was alleged the 32-year-old boyfriend also punched her in the forehead and slapped her so hard in the face that it resulted in cuts to her lower lip and tongue, police said in the document. The woman required medical treatment, said police, who first learned of the alleged assault last week. "Candelaria placed his arm over her throat and applied pressure, causing her to lose consciousness for a moment, police said. Following his arraignment late Wednesday morning before District Judge Gary Whiteman on charges of aggravated and simple assault as well as recklessly endangering another person, Candelaria was committed to the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $25,000 bail.
In another domestic case, Joshua Cooley, 31, was arrested Tuesday night on assault-related charges after he attacked his girlfriend in their Bastress Township home, state police alleged in an affidavit. Although the woman did not require medical treatment, troopers noticed bruising on her neck and left inner arm, it was stated in the court document. Troopers responded to the couple's house at 6391 Route 654 about 6:30 p.m. Arraigned before District Judge Kirsten Gardner on charges of simple assault and harassment, Cooley was released on $25,000 bail.
In another case, after the terrified woman locked herself in a second-floor bedroom, Jacob Jason Helm Jr. broke down the bedroom door, punched the woman two to three times in the face, grabbed her throat with one hand and began choking her in the couple's Old Lycoming Township home at 1517 Fox Hollow Road about 10:45 p.m. Saturday, Lycoming Regional police alleged in an affidavit. The woman broke free and desperately tried to get to her telephone to call for help, but the 28-year-old Helm got a hold of her and started dragging her down a set of stairs as he told her "Get the (expletive) out of the house," police alleged. Charged with felony strangulation, simple assault and harassment, Helm was arraigned before District Judge Aaron Biichle and initially jailed, but has since been released on $25,000 bail.
Jersey Shore woman charged with shoplifting for third time
Gina Ann Rhinehart, 46, of 703 Allegheny St., apartment 5, Jersey Shore, has been arrested on felony charges of shoplifting and receiving stolen property after allegedly stealing a total of $20 worth of merchandise from the Minit Mart at 815 Allegheny St. in the borough on July 14 and July 15, Lycoming Regional police alleged.
This was her third shoplifting offense, police said. Following her arraignment before District Judge Denise Dieter, Rhinehart, who has since waived her preliminary hearing, was released on $15,000 bail.
