A Fairfield Township man was left homeless Thursday afternoonafter a fire destroyed his mobile home at 91 Odell Road, according to Montoursville Deputy Fire Chief Tyler Schramm.
Although it was initially reported that someone might be trapped inside the structure when the fire was reported about 12:30 p.m., Schramm said that was not the case. No one was home at the time.
Montoursville volunteer firefighters were out of the door of their Broad Street firehouse within minutes, Schramm said, adding the a few members were at the station at the time. They were quickly joined by other volunteers who started arriving at the station.
Odell Road is about three miles east of the borough, but firefighters could see a column of smoke in the sky about a mile from the scene.
Upon arrival, firefighters were faced with flames shooting from the kitchen windows and the front door.
“They (the firefighters) made an aggressive interior attack,” using two hoses as they entered the burning structure, Schramm explained.
The fire was out by about 12:50 p.m., according to the county’s 911 center.
The sole resident, whose name was not released, will be staying with family or friends, Schramm said.
A state police police fire marshal will try to determine the origin and cause of the blaze.
Besides Montoursville, firefighters from Williamsport, Loyalsock Township, Old Lycoming Township, Hughesville and Muncy Area all responded to the scene.
