Family and friends gathered Saturday at the Old Lycoming Township Volunteer Fire Department to honor and remember lifetime company member Benjamin H. Laurenson Jr., who died on Aug. 19 at age 90. The recipient of several awards including the company's Distinguished Service Award in 1990, Laurenson dedicated his life to helping and "serving others," said Larry Dincher, the fire company treasurer who delivered the eurolgy.
Laurenson was described by Dincher as one with "a wealth of knowledge." He said Laurenson's "influence is all over this firehouse. His legacy is rooted in his humble example that had no end," Dincher said. Among his many countless contributions, Laurenson, who joined the fire department in 1972, cut the fire company's lawn until he was 87.
