Two charged with child endangerment in separate cases

Sharif Najim Wood, 39, of 1869 Hazel Drive, has been arrested on one felony count of endangering the welfare of a child after a male infant suffered injuries while under his care at his Loyalsock Township home on May 9 and again May 30, state police alleged in an affidavit. Wood told troopers that the injuries were caused each time by him having to grab the infant to prevent him from rolling off a couch, the court document stated. However, when photos of the injuries were shown to a pediatrician assigned to the Sunbury Child Advocacy Center, the doctor said the pictures did not appear to be consistent with the explanation provided by Wood, who was arraigned last week before District Judge Gary Whiteman and initially jailed, but has since been released on $7,500 bail.

In another case, Ciarra Yvonne Clarke, 42, of 440 Clayton Ave., has been charged with one count of endangering the welfare of a child for what state police said was her alleged failure to properly "maintain supervision" of her children in her Loyalsock Township home in late June. There were "repeated" episodes of the children, two of whom are under 4, leaving the home on their own and endangering themselves, neighbors told investigators. Clarke waived her preliminary hearing before Whiteman and is free on $5,000 bail.

Charges lodged against restaurant employee following disturbance

Tracy Matthew Butler II, a 25-year-old employee at Grace Buffet and Grill on Loyalsock Avenue in Montoursville, faces numerous charges after creating a disturbance at the business about 5:30 p.m. on July 5, state police alleged in court documents filed at Whiteman's office. Troopers said Butler, of 2704 Dove St., "was visibly impaired" and resisted their efforts to take him into custody. Troopers had to deploy their tasers at least twice before they could remove him from the scene. "He would talk, curse out everyone and then cry. He admitted to drinking, but never said how much," a trooper wrote in the document. Due to his intoxication and his heart rate, he was taken by ambulance to UPMC Williamsport. Charged with resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness, Butler waived his preliminary hearing Monday and was released on $5,000 bail.

Five charged with shoplifting in four separate cases

In the first four months of this year, three-time convicted shoplifter Asya M. Hans, 31, of 1005 Packer St., stole a total of $92 worth of merchandise from the Weis Market, 305 River Ave., in Loyalsock Township, state police alleged in an affidavit. It was alleged she stole from the supermarket on four different occasions during that time, police said. Arraigned last week before District Judge William Solomon on four felony counts of shoplifting, Hans was released on $15,000 bail.

In another case, two-time convicted shoplifter Ellexus Berger-Walker, 25, of 2500 Federal Ave., apartment 346, faces felony charges of shoplifting and conspiracy after she and an accomplice were nabbed attempting to steal $44 worth of merchandise from Walmart in Montoursville on July 17, borough police alleged in an affidavit. Following her arraignment last week before Whiteman, Berger-Walker was released on $10,000 bail.

In another case, Jamarr Ritter, 35, of 1612 Elmira St., and Jesse Dillon Robert, 42, of 1823 Sweeley Ave., have been charged with misdemeanor shoplifting for stealing $200 worth of merchandise from the Weis Market on North Loyalsock Avenue in Montoursville on June 30, according to borough police. Both are free on bail following proceedings this week before Whiteman.

In another case, Cynesha T. Jackson, 33, of 421 Stevens St., has been arraigned on misdemeanor charges of shoplifting and receiving stolen property stemming from an incident at the Weis Market at 1816 Lycoming Creek Road, where she is alleged to have stolen $380 worth of merchandise between April 18 and May 23, according to Lycoming Regional police. She is free on $5,000 bail.

Milton man waives hearing on charges from December incident

Houston Robert Hall, 29, of Milton, remains locked up in the Lycoming County Prison on charges stemming from a disturbance that began in the 100 block of East Water Street in Hughesville, where he is alleged to have assaulted a woman by putting his arms around her neck, restricting her breathing, on Dec. 22, according to state police. From Water Street, Hall, described in an affidavit as struggling with mental health issues, made his way to South Fifth Street, where he jumped onto a moving car, kicked the front door of a house and stole a glove from a man who was walking his dog, according to the court document. He was taken into custody and arraigned before District Judge Kirsten Gardner on charges of felony strangulation, simple assault, resisting arrest, institutional vandalism, theft, criminal mischief and harassment. He waived his preliminary hearing and is jailed in lieu of $25,000 bail.
