Ashley Foltz recently opened a second location of her popular clothing and accessory shop, Skeleton Key Boutique, at 442 William St., Williamsport. The original Skeleton Key Boutique is located at 19 E. Main St., Lock Haven.
Foltz knew she had a large customer base in the Williamsport area, so when she heard about an available space downtown, she knew it would be perfect.
Foltz, a graduate of Lock Haven University and the school's Physician Assistant program, decided several years ago to pursue her interest in fashion while working as a full-time physician assistant and raising two children.
Foltz started the boutique out of her home, buying just 10 styles of clothing at a time and showing them on Facebook Live. When those styles sold out, she would get 10 more. Foltz then opened up her home to people several times a month to shop. Eventually she was ready to open up a storefront in Flemington prior to moving the Main Street location in Lock Haven in 2020.
Foltz still works part-time as a physician assistant and is very involved in her children's school and activities, and she is passionate about bringing stylish, inclusive, and affordable clothing options to the area.
"Honestly I feel like we carry a little bit of everything for everyone," said Foltz, "We carry size extra-small through 3XL, and jeans we carry size 0 through 24."
Foltz says the people that shop in the boutique range from high school age to 70s and 80s. Something that makes the Skeleton Key Boutique unique is that they have an app for both apple and android that lists the inventory at both stores. The inventory is completely different at each location and a customer can order something from Lock Haven and pick it up in Williamsport and vice versa. Foltz also ships all over the United States.
Between the two stores, Foltz gets in 60 to 80 new styles every week. Inventory moves quickly, and Foltz only orders a small amount of each style because she understands that no one wants to dress like everyone else. As a working mother, it is important to Foltz to offer clothing options that can be worn both to work and on the weekend.
"It's a lot of things that are comfortable, casual, but trendy and we also try to keep our prices very fair," said Foltz.
The space features a full fitting room with seating that is perfect for a group shopping together and an old vault that is now a bar and coffee area with complimentary beer, wine, and coffee. Foltz said her goal is to create a whole shopping experience for her customers, especially after the pandemic when people want to actually get out and touch, see, and feel what they are buying.
Foltz has been warmly welcomed to downtown Williamsport by both customers and other business owners alike, and she says she could not have done it without the support of her family.
"My husband did all the work and my kids were involved every step of the way," said Foltz.
Foltz also credits her success to her amazing employees, Michele Hanna and Tess Gallagher, who Foltz says have been instrumental in getting the new store open.
The Williamsport location is open Tuesday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
