Cliff Rieders recently delivered a lecture on the First Amendment to the Virginia Mountain/Valley Lawyer Alliance.
According to a news release, Rieders was invited to give the lecture following the program which he conducted at Georgetown University Law School addressing the First Amendment, speech clause.
"The First Amendment has been controversial for a long time in terms of whether it protects conduct which is not necessarily speech," the news release said.
Rieders looked at the historical case law dealing with the First Amendment such as flag burning, cross burning, and similar activities. Rieders pointed out that today ground zero for the First Amendment are antisemitic acts on college campuses by pro-Hamas demonstrators and campers. The question raised by Rieders, and other legal scholars, is to what degree does the First Amendment protect the activity of those who damage and destroy college campuses, threaten others, confine Jewish students to their rooms or the library as part of a campaign by campus radicals, outsiders, to degrade and destroy the Jewish State of Israel?
Rieders expects there will be significant further call for his lecture on the limits and protections inherent in First Amendment litigation.
Rieders, the news release said, is part of the Law Firm of Rieders, Travis, Dohrmann, Mowrey, Humprey & Waters, a New York University Cum Laude Phi Beta graduate, and graduated from Georgetown University Law Center. Rieders has served as President of the Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers, now the Pennsylvania Association of Justice, is a life member of the American Law Institute, and has received numerous honors and recognition for his work, legal skills, and efforts on behalf of the bench, bar and citizenry.
