Gas prices fall locally — but future uncertain
The price at the gas pumps in Greater Williamsport is starting to drop at various gas stations but gas and oil experts in the region are uncertain what effect, if any, reciprocal tariffs promised to begin soon under the administration of President Donald Trump will have in coming weeks.
While there are price fluctuations, some drivers could see adjustments at the pump due to markets and retailers reacting to news of tariffs and the transition to summer-grade gasoline, which is more expensive to produce. The national average for a gallon of gas dropped a penny since last week thanks in part to softer oil prices, according to AAA.
The agency said Williamsport average prices with a current listing this week were at $3.05 for regular gasoline. A week ago it was $3.13 average. A month ago it was $3.20 average. The national average is $3.07. Pennsylvania is averaging $3.23, the agency said.
In the city, the prices are lower than that at Wawa and Sheetz on Maynard Street, where the price was $2.89 and $2.92, respectively, per gallon. Weis Markets also was listed at $2.92. Exxon at Arch Street was $2.89, according to observation and Gas Buddy.com.
For those with EV cars and trucks, the national average per kilowatt hour of electricity at a public EV charging station stayed the same at 34 cents, AAA reported.
According to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gasoline demand increased from 8.45 b/d last week to 8.87. Total domestic gasoline supply decreased from 248.3 million barrels to 246.8. Gasoline production increased last week, averaging 9.6 million barrels per day.
Today’s national average for a gallon of gas is $3.11, 2 cents lower than a month ago and 27 cents lower than a year ago.
