Tax credits for local businesses available

Loyalsock Foundation is once again reaching out to local businesses to participate in the state Department of Community and Economic Development Neighborhood Assistance Tax Credit Program.

“The goal of this program is to bring together businesses and non-profit organizations to benefit local communities,” a news release said.

This program is available to any corporation, LLC, and subchapter S corporation that may want to direct their tax dollars to a nonprofit to benefit the community while simultaneously receiving a tax credit. Participating businesses may receive a 90% tax credit against state taxes by making a contribution to Loyalsock Foundation.

Last year, Loyalsock Foundation received $371,500 in corporate donations for Phase 2 construction of the 0.5 mile gravel access road/driveway to the future site of The Summit: Center for Wellness, located in Laporte Township, Sullivan County. Nineteen businesses across the area invested in this project, bringing The Summit one step closer to fruition.

This year’s funding request is designated for infrastructure components, the news release said. Design and installation of the well, septic system, and electric system are needed for the main building as well as The Landing, a community space designed as a treehouse. The infrastructure components will cost about $400,000 and are critical in advancing Loyalsock Foundation’s vision of building an indoor wellness facility and providing outdoor recreation opportunities for Sullivan County’s residents, both permanent and seasonal, and visitors to the area.

Loyalsock Foundation volunteers have already begun contacting businesses throughout the area to provide information and answer questions about this program.
