Furniture company extols staff, inclusion on magazine’s list

For the second year in a row, Brick Mill Furniture in Williamsport has made Inc. magazine's Inc. 5000 list. The high end furniture is crafted in downtown Williamsport, using domestically sourced lumber.
"We've made an impressive jump from #3,471 in 2025 to #1,699 this year. At Brick Mill, we have built a fantastic team, with most members having been with us for multiple years--some since the very beginning of the business. They have witnessed our growth and can see how their hard work has contributed to our success," said Zac Caseman, who is senior vice-president and general manager of Brick Mill.
For inclusion on the Inc. 5000 list, companies must be one of the fastest growing, privately owned companies in the United States. From adding a new company to hiring more employees, the Brick Mill''s trajectory keeps ascending.
"We do know [from last year] that being recognized on the list boosted our customers' confidence in purchasing from us. Buying handcrafted furniture online, without seeing it in person, requires our customers to take a significant leap of faith. This recognition gave them more trust in us and the quality of our products," said Caseman.
As new customers discover the brand and existing ones return, Brick Mill continues to hire more people to keep up with growing demand.
"We are always hiring to keep up with the needs of the customer. The more customers buy the more we have to hire to keep up with that need and it doesn't seem to be slowing down. Around the area, a lot of people have heard of Brick Mill, which has made it easier for us in hiring. We don't have to go out and find people. People are coming to us and we are always looking for talented people. You don't necessarily have to be a woodworker. We can teach you that skill set," said Jacob Laylon, operations manager at Brick Mill.
Caseman added, "We'll certainly add more craftsman positions in our shop. On top of that, we will likely continue to hire for roles ranging from Sales to Marketing/Creative to Management."
Founded in 2020, Brick Mill hand crafts wood furniture ranging from dining room chairs and tables to desks to headboards and more.
"When you order a piece from us, it doesn't exist yet. It has to be made. It comes from nothing from raw lumber and through all the craftsmen we have in our facility. They each do their steps in the process to craft it into the final piece of furniture," said Caseman.
Since their founding, Brick Mill purchased Alderfer Lumber and Live Edge in Mt Pleasant Mills, which provides their American wood and opened a storefront in King of Prussia. In addition, the company recently launched Beam and Baron. Their sister company inhabits the same building as Brick Mill Furniture at 315 W. Third Street. Like their furniture, Beam and Baron produces high end wood products that include solid and engineered wood flooring, decking, interior panelling and siding.
While 90% of Brick Mill's clientele comes from the internet, they still maintain a showroom for locals to visit.
"It allows people to walk by and see the beautiful furniture. People do travel to our showroom from Harrisburg, Lancaster, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and New York City," said Caseman.
Seeing the workmanship up close helps buyers with purchasing decisions.
"Nobody is going to have the same piece that you have. Even though they got the same dining table that you ordered from us, every board in your table is going to be different than every board in their table. For us it's a big differentiator of going to a big box store versus coming to us to get furniture. We don't use mdf and particle board. We use solid hardwood. The benefit and beauty of solid hardwood is the longevity of it," said Caseman.
Caseman also said the downtown location has made it easier to hire, with people applying for jobs weekly.
With year two on the Inc. 5000 under their belt, Caseman credits his team for the accomplishment.
He said, "The biggest reason for our growth has been the team that we have assembled."
