Representatives of the Paternostro family recently presented three $500 awards for the annual Paternostro Family Foundation Memorial Scholarship to Bradley Beaver, Chad Bomboy and Samantha Thompson, members of the Class of 2018, during a visit to the East Lycoming School District recently.
"We were impressed by the quality of applications we received for our scholarship this year," remarked Krista Paternostro Bower, chair of the Paternostro Family Foundation. "We believed that all three students represented the essence of what this memorial award truly means. In fact, this is the first time we have recognized three students during one academic year." She continued, "Our father's greatest legacy will always be his genuine care and concern for all children. The students were always his highest priority. This award is a meaningful way we can pass that legacy on by helping graduates pursue their own passions in his memory." Bower continued "Kathleen was an outstanding athlete, a great student, and an exceptional person during her time at Hughesville High, so presenting this annual scholarship in her memory reminds us that her life and contributions will never be forgotten."
All three recipients have been active in sports, school clubs and organizations, as well as within their communities. Bradley Beaver plans to play football and pursue a criminal justice degree at Lycoming College in the fall. Chad Bomboy will study plastics and polymer engineering at the Pennsylvania College of Technology, while Samantha Thompson will attend the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado, to pursue legal studies.
Since 2013, the Paternostro Family Foundation has awarded a total of $7,100 in scholarships to 11 selected graduates of Hughesville High School. In addition to providing scholarships, the Paternostro Family Foundation provides financial support to qualifying local cancer patients and their families.
