W’sport senior awarded prestigious music scholarship

Marlowe Jacques, son of Dana and Robert Jacques, a senior at Williamsport Area High School, was recently awarded a prestigious Filene Music Scholarship by Skidmore College, Saratoga Springs, N.Y. The competition drew high school seniors from as far away as England, Canada, California and Florida. His winning violin performance consisted of the Bach Adagio in G Minor and excerpts from the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto.

The Filene Music Scholarships are funded by the Lincoln and Theresa Filene Foundation and the Ladd Charitable Corporation. The four-year stipends are in addition to any scholarship already awarded and offer exceptional student-scholar musicians the opportunity to further their musical studies and receive a liberal arts education. Skidmore College is a highly selective institution that enjoys a particularly rich tradition in music, with additional strengths in the sciences, business and liberal arts.

Marlowe also was the 2021 winner of the Williamsport Symphony’s Young Artists Competition and was the featured soloist at its December concert. He studies violin locally under Dr. Kenneth Sarch.

Marlowe has served as Concertmaster at the Williamsport High School, the Williamsport Symphony’s Youth Orchestra and the Millionaire Strolling Strings. He has participated in district, regional and state orchestras.

He will enter Skidmore this fall and will major in music and business.

Starting at $2.99/week.
