Brewing instructor to deliver Penn State Extension webinar

Pennsylvania College of Technology’s brewing & fermentation science instructor, Timothy L. Yarrington, will present a free Penn State Extension webinar, set for 7 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 24.

“Brewers Guide to Water and Beer Varieties” will explore how to use an existing water source to make a variety of beer styles. The webinar, intended for home brewers, commercial brewers, beer enthusiasts and educators, will explain how water influences beer quality and how you can impact water composition to improve versatility.

“Successful brewers are a combination of scientist, engineer, mechanic and artist,” Yarrington said. “It is a profession that asks a lot of the people who choose to make it their career. I’ve spent nearly half my life gaining knowledge and expertise in this field and feel like I could add another lifetime of study and still have things to learn. Whether you are a novice, a hobbyist, an aspiring professional or an active professional, I would encourage you to constantly pursue knowledge in brewing science and technology. While I am a firm believer in an extensive, hands-on education for those with serious professional aspirations, any opportunity to increase your knowledge is a worthy investment of time. Webinars can provide a way to explore the complexities of brewing via brief, topical, modular talks.”

Although offered at no charge, registration is required to receive the webinar access link and recording. Visit the Penn State Extension website for more information.

This is the second time this year that Yarrington has shared his expertise via a Penn State Extension webinar. His previous talk was titled “Managing Bitterness When Pursuing Significant Hop Flavor and Aroma in the Brew House.”

Starting at $2.99/week.
