Jersey Shore Area High School Students of the Month September
Two Jersey Shore Area High School seniors are chosen per month to be recognized as students of the month. Elijah Christian Bower, Lion’s Club Student of the Month; and Abigail Irene Corson, Business and Professional Women’s Student of the Month have been chosen to be acknowledged for the month of September.
Elijah Christian Bower, the son of Nicole and Chad Bower of Cogan Station, is a four-year member of the Future Business Leaders of America and varsity tennis. He has been the vice president of FBLA for both his junior and senior years. He was a national and state qualifier for the American Enterprise project through FBLA. This project promotes understanding of the American Enterprise System through a small coffee shop, run by Mrs. Machmer’s Life Skills class. Elijah has lettered in varsity tennis for three years. Last year with his partner, he played in the district doubles tournament. During his senior year, Elijah joined the manufacturing club and is the organization’s treasurer. From 2021 to 2022, Elijah was apart of the #WeShoreCare project which helped to collect over 14 tons of canned food items and over $34,000 to benefit the Love Center. In 11th grade, Elijah was chosen as Student of the Quarter.
For the past two and a half years, Elijah has worked at Natural Waterscapes. He is heavily involved in his church, First Church, youth group and small group for young men. Elijah enjoys hunting, fishing, working on cars and spending time with family and friends. He has been accepted into Pennsylvania College of Technology for welding engineering.
Abigail Irene Corson is the daughter of Scott and Kimberly Corson of Bastress. She is a four year member of FBLA and the track and field team. She was involved in homecoming committee in 9th, 11th and 12th grades, an inductee of National English Honor Society for her junior and senior years, on the cross country team and prom committee during her junior year, as well as student council and powderpuff football her senior year. Abby was elected as the secretary for student council in her senior year and was the track captain her junior year. She has lettered in both cross country and track and field, is a recipient of the Bishop’s Youth Award, and member of distinguished honor roll.
Within the community, Abby is an active member of her church, Immaculate Conception. Abby can be seen alter serving at weekly masses, waitressing meals for the Labor and Memorial Day picnics, or participating in youth group sessions. Abby works at her family orchard on the weekends and in the summer. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends, going to the lake and running. After high school, Abby plans on going to college to further her education.
