Lyco, SJN collaborate to study local historical figures
Lycoming College’s Children and Social Studies Education class collaborated with students in Judy Christie’s 3rd grade social studies class at St. John Neumann Regional Academy to study local figures who impacted the Lycoming County and Pennsylvania community. The teacher candidates worked closely with students in small groups to research Madame Montour, Rachel Silverthorne, Avis Ann Rouse Cochran, Carol Stotz, Peter Herdic, Julia Collins, Michael Ross and Milton Hershey. Lycoming College teacher candidates led their groups in leading the research on their assigned person and helping the students create a visual to present to the class. The third-grade students enjoyed being researchers and historians as they learned about the people from local communities.
