Loyalsock Township High School Students of the Month
Loyalsock Township High School selects one student a month to acknowledge as students of the month. Harris Kahn has been nominated by the science department for the month of November, and Emma Strickland has been nominated by the math department for the month of December.
Harris Khan, son of Anjum Khan and Ayaz Khan, has been on the high honor roll each semester in high school to date. With a current 4.0 GPA, Harris is active in the Interact Rotary Club and Model UN. Further, he has been awarded and recognized as a Model UN Superior Delegate, and by the College Board as a PSAT Commended Scholar as well as an AP Scholar with Distinction. Harris has volunteered at Thrive International — teaching immigrants English and volunteering at a soup kitchen. Further, he volunteers at UPMC Physiotherapy where he virtually assists vision-impaired individuals. In his spare time, Harris enjoys writing on trending medical topics and as a medicine blog writer and shadowing radiologists. Upon graduating from Loyalsock, Harris plans on attending an undergraduate university followed by medical school.
Emma Strickland, daughter of Dr. Carolyn Strickland and Dr. Elliott Strickland, has been on the high honor roll since entering high school and has carried a 4.0 GPA as well. Emma’s academic success and extra-curricular experiences have been many, including recently attending the rigorous Governor’s School for the Sciences held at Carnegie Mellon University. This experience, primarily in STEM, added to her existing passion to study neuroscience at the post-secondary level. Emma has served as a senior leader of the soccer team and has played club soccer for many years. She was recognized as a PHAC All-Star in her junior year. A National Honor Society student (President), Emma has been very active in school and in the community including the Sojourner Truth After School/Summer Program. A recognized student leader, Emma is a member of and/or is an officer in a myriad of clubs/activities including SADD, Key Club, Spanish Club, and Interact Club. She also has been active member of the wind ensemble for all four years and has participated in the senior county band festival both in her junior and senior year. Upon graduating, Emma seeks a four-year degree in neuroscience followed by graduate school.
