Montoursville team comes in second at Academic Decathalon competition

The Academic Decathalon of Central Pennsylvania recently held its District Competition for the 2022-2023 year at the Penns Valley High School in Spring Mills, according to a press release. Montoursville’s team came in second place out of eight teams.

This second place result qualified the Montoursville team for the state finals for the 16th consecutive year. The state finals will be held March 3 and 4 at Thiel College in Greensville, Pa.

The medal winners in the honors division are:

• Christian Smith, senior, gold in music, art, social studies, economics and math; bronze in science and literature; gold in overall score.

• Melody Rzeszotarski, junior, silver in interview and economics; bronze in essay, art, literature and social studies; silver in overall score.

• Bec Bradley, senior, silver in essay and math.

The medal winners in the scholastic division are:

• Grace Barkauskas, freshman, gold in music; silver in art; bronze in math.

• Zach McGarvey, junior, silver in math; bronze in science and social studies.

• Zach Smith, senior, silver in economics; bronze in speech.

The medal winners in the varsity division are:

• Austin Clees, senior, gold in math and interview; bronze in essay.

• Haily Copp, junior, gold in social science and speech.

• AJ Smith, senior, bronze in economics.

Alternates who participated included Sarah Kline, senior; Riley Nelson and Gabi Pulizzi, juniors; Addision Confer, sophomore; and Reese Peterson, freshman.
