‘Nunsense’ to take the stage at Jersey Shore Area High School
JERSEY SHORE — If you’re looking for some good laughs and great music, then you’ll definitely be entertained as “Nunsense: The Mega-Musical Version” by Dan Goggin is performed on stage at Jersey Shore Area Senior High School.
The musical will be performed at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at the senior high auditorium. Tickets can be reserved by calling 570-398-7170 by 3 p.m. Friday. Tickets will also be sold at the door.
The show promises to be filled with laughs, according to the press release.
While the storyline might seem quite somber — food poisoning has killed off most of the nuns of the Little Sisters of Hoboken convent and the surviving members need money to bury them — the play is a humorous look at the surviving nuns’ efforts to raise money for the burials. They run into many obstacles and find themselves in some crazy situations as they work to put on a variety show to raise funeral money. The show itself is being put on in the Mount Saint Helen’s School auditorium, which is being used by the school for a performance of the musical “Grease.”
The nuns who will be performing the variety show are about as diverse as a group of nuns can get. There’s Reverend Mother Mary Regina, performed by Laurel Demers, who has a past as a circus performer and who looks forward to performing once again. She is assisted by Sister Hubert, performed by Grace Welshans, who is second in command. Sister Robert Anne, performed by Ellie Sutliff, brings her street smarts from her upbringing in Brooklyn. Then there’s Sister Leo, performed by Briar Cohick, who dreams of becoming the first ballerina nun, and Sister Amnesia, performed by Jocelyn Cunningham, who lost her memory when a crucifix fell on her head.
Rounding out the cast are Sister Julia, performed by Kira Bierly, Sister Wilhelm, performed by Sarah Andrus, Sister Luke, performed by Rees Bierly, Sister Brendan, performed by Sydney Brungard, and Father Virgil, performed by Charlie Snook. Appearing as chorus nuns and priest are Phoebe Henry, Emilee Eisner, Arianna Bufford, Jack Fetzer, Melody Watson, Ella Schall, Lucy Engel and Cady Doud.
The stage crew includes Zaccheus Miller, Gannon Bruno, Kiersten Minshull, Carley Doud, Bella Saunders, Sam Knepp and Gracie Phillips. The show is directed by Ms. Heather Haigh and Ms. Michele Long.
